The 4 hottest eyewear trends this year are:

  1. 1990s vintage glasses
  2. Minimal rectangular sunglasses
  3. Aviator glasses
  4. Butterfly glasses

Trend #1: 1990s Vintage Glasses

vintage glasses1990s vintage glasses started trending with Generation Z and their love of the 90s. 90s fashion amongst high school students started with Saved by the Bell shirts and Golden Girl shirts. The new generation just couldn’t get enough of what their parents thought was cool 30 years ago.

Sure, the 90s were an amazing and golden time to grow up, but the new generation wants a piece of it. In the 90s, square, round, and rectangular metals were all the craze.

The 90s liked minimalistic metals without color. I think JK Rowling styled Harry Potter in gold round glasses because it’s the style that she grew up with in the 90s.

Trend #2: Minimal Rectangular Glasses

millenium sunglassesMinimal rectangular sunglasses have been featured in the new White Lotus seasons (seasons 2 and 3). A girl in her 20s, along with a fashionable mom in her 50s, are seen wearing the iconic 1960s-inspired sunglasses.

In the new millennium, sunglasses were all about the bigger the better. Post-COVID, everyone wanted skinny, wide sunglasses. The shape makes everyone feel like Marilyn Monroe.

Trend #3: Aviator Glasses

aviator glassesAviator glasses used to jokingly be seen as the ‘serial killer look’. Sadly, in the 1970s and 1980s, aviator glasses were not worn by history’s best people.

But in 2025, corporate America, movie stars and people who like Boho Chic are loving this look. Why? Because aviator glasses make your eyes look bigger and your head look more petite.

Aviator glasses happen to be a personal favorite, despite them not fitting me. Jennifer Aniston wore gold aviator glasses at the Friends reunion, and all major fashion labels have been coming out with their version.

Trend #4: Butterfly Glasses

butterfly glassesButterfly glasses are sadly not my cup of tea, but many fashion labels are having trouble keeping up with the demand for them. Close to the nose, the frames are narrow, but they become wider, like a butterfly, at the outer edges. People with round and square faces find this look to be very flattering.
